Más información

Urbiola’s town center is located very close to Highway N-1110, the main road connecting Pamplona and Logroño, with easy access to the A-12 (Autovía del Camino).

In the town center, the Church of San Salvador stands out; it dates back to the Middle Ages and was renovated in the 16th and 17th centuries. The church houses a Gothic carving of the Virgin of the Rosary and a decorated Romanesque baptismal font. Opposite the church stands the 17th-century Palacio de Eguílaz, whose ashlar façade—featuring four Baroque coats of arms—has been preserved, alongside several houses bearing coats of arms that reflect the town’s historical significance.

The area surrounding Urbiola offers one of its most unique attractions through its archaeological heritage. Near the village, along the road to Olejua, lies the Cueva de los Hombres Verdes (Cave of the Green Men), an ancient Bronze Age copper mine that was later repurposed as a collective burial site. Discovered in 1958, human and ceramic remains associated with different population groups were found there, including bones stained green by copper salts—a distinctive feature that gives the site its name.

The town maintains an active community life connected to the valley. Its patron saint festivities are held on the last weekend of August in honor of Saint Simon and Saint Jude, and are complemented by pilgrimages and shared celebrations, such as the ascent to Monjardín in June and the Santesteban Valley Festival in early September.
