Ollogoyen is a great place to visit year-round. Spring and fall are especially recommended for hiking along the slopes of the Lóquiz mountain range and enjoying the sweeping views of the valley. Ollogoyen is the highest district in the municipality of Metauten, located at an elevation of 610 meters. Its small hamlet is sheltered by the limestone escarpment of the Sierra de Lóquiz, in an elevated position that overlooks the entire agricultural landscape of the valley and clearly highlights the relationship between the village and the mountains.
The town center has a simple layout, featuring several houses with coats of arms dating from the 16th and 17th centuries. At one end of the village stands the Church of San Martín, a unique building because it is the only one in the area that has survived to the present day while retaining its original form.
The natural surroundings are one of the municipality’s greatest assets. The slopes of the Sierra de Lóquiz, covered with holm oaks and gall oaks, offer numerous opportunities for walks and hiking trails. These trails allow visitors to explore a landscape historically linked to forestry and the truffle-hunting tradition characteristic of the Metauten Valley. Trails depart from the village itself, connecting to the mountain range and neighboring towns, always within a peaceful and largely unspoiled setting.
The patron saint festivities are held in November in honor of Saint Martin, and the smaller festivities for Saint Blaise take place in February, reflecting a festive calendar rich in traditions and the municipality’s identity.
