Más información

Olejua sits on a small hill on the western foothills of Montejurra, offering a commanding view of the Valdega Valley and the Ega River valley. Its elevated location makes the landscape one of the village’s main attractions, offering sweeping panoramic views that stretch from San Gregorio Ostiense to the Sierra de Lóquiz and the cluster of small towns in the surrounding area.

The compact and well-preserved village combines traditional stone houses with ashlar masonry—some featuring coats of arms—and well-maintained public spaces. The main heritage landmark is the Church of Santiago: a Proto-Gothic church of remarkable size for a town of its scale, bearing witness to a history linked to the secondary routes of the Camino de Santiago. On the outskirts stands one of the municipality’s most unique features: an 18th-century washhouse in the Neoclassical style, considered among the most important in Navarre due to its remarkable artistic value.

The summit of Caracierzo, near the town center, serves as a natural lookout point from which the layout of the Valdega Valley is clearly visible. In the surrounding area, and along the rural roads encircling Olejua, there are easy and accessible trails—traditionally linked to agricultural work and now transformed into peaceful walking routes.

Life in Olejua remains closely tied to the countryside and a strong sense of community. Pilgrimages, such as the one for San Isidro, and the patron saint festivities centered on Santiago mark the annual calendar and keep the identity of this small town alive.
