Más información

At an elevation of 800 meters, at the northeastern end of the Guesálaz Valley, Muniáin de Guesálaz sits on one of the region’s great natural overlooks. From here, the landscape opens up, and the village marks the boundary between the valley and the mountains, offering panoramic views that extend to Montejurra, Monjardín, and—on clear days—even farther horizons.

Its privileged location makes the village a popular starting point for those wishing to explore the Sierra de Andía and Mount Sarbil. The ascent to Cabezón de Echauri begins here; within its boundaries lies the Santa Cruz Hermitage, the focal point of a traditional pilgrimage held every May.

Muniáin is also the starting point of the “Georuta de las Tres Ermitas” (Three Chapels Geotrail), a circular route that connects the chapels of Santa Lucía, the Virgen de la O, and Santa Cruz through beech and oak forests and natural lookout points. The route offers sweeping views of the Salinas de Oro diapir and, on particularly clear days, even as far as the Pyrenees.

The town center retains a traditional layout and simple stone architecture, with houses bearing coats of arms from different eras that reflect its history. At the entrance to the village, the combined presence of the parish church of Santa Catalina and the former 16th-century manor house defines much of the town’s character.

During the week, serenity reigns; on weekends and in the summer, residents and visitors return, drawn by hiking, the local heritage, and the intimate atmosphere of a village where pilgrimages, festivals, and neighborhood gatherings continue to foster a strong sense of community.
