The Urederra River is an integral part of local life, offering riverside walks, rest areas, and natural spaces that invite visitors to enjoy the scenery at a leisurely pace.
The Church of the Assumption, located next to the old inn on the road to Urbasa, helps us understand Larrión’s historical role as one of the main towns in the Allín Valley.
Larrión is a great place to visit year-round. Spring and fall are especially good times to hike the trails along the Urederra River and enjoy rock climbing. Summer is perfect for walks along the river and coincides with the town’s patron saint festivities in August, while winter offers a more peaceful atmosphere, ideal for those looking to unwind.
Larrión is located in the heart of the Allín Valley, very close to Estella-Lizarra. Historically, it has been one of the valley’s main towns, noted for its strategic location along the Urederra River and the region’s main transportation routes. Its open landscapes of mountainous terrain and riverbanks make up one of the region’s most iconic areas.
The town is divided into two clearly distinct areas, known as the “pueblo” and the “venta.” The first corresponds to the more compact urban center, where the parish church, the squares, and the community spaces are concentrated. The second, located on the road connecting Estella with Urbasa, is called “la venta” because of the old inn with a blacksmith’s shop that once stood there—now converted into a bar-restaurant. The Church of the Assumption, of medieval origin and featuring proto-Gothic architecture, is the town’s main heritage landmark and one of the most significant historic churches in the valley.
The Urederra River flows through the town, offering riverside walks, rest areas, and spaces for outdoor recreation, while the Larrión cliffs (Lazkua, Altikogaña, Bargagorría, and San Fausto) form one of Navarre’s largest climbing areas, with over two hundred vertical routes for all skill levels, attracting enthusiasts from across the region.
Local life follows the rhythm of the small municipalities of Tierra Estella, with community traditions, gathering places such as the fronton and the gastronomic society, and celebrations that mark the annual calendar. Among these are the patron saint festivals in honor of the Virgin of the Assumption and Saint Roch on August 15 and 16, respectively.
