Izurzu is a small village located in the northeastern part of the Guesálaz Valley, at the foot of the Etxauri Pass and extending into the Sarbil Mountain Range, offering an incredible experience that blends heritage, nature, and traditions.
The village is organized around the NA-700 highway, featuring stone houses, a fronton, and communal spaces for its residents. It is a small, quiet community during the week that comes alive on weekends and in the summer, when residents and visitors return in search of tranquility and a connection with nature.
In the lower part of the village stands the parish church of San Andrés, a medieval church characterized by its simple and harmonious style. Nearby, small spots like the restored old washhouse or the traditional fountains speak to a simple, well-preserved way of life that is still very much alive.
Izurzu is also a great starting point for hiking. From the village itself, you can access trails and paths that wind into the Sarbil mountain range, with routes offering sweeping views of the Guesálaz Valley and the Pamplona basin. It’s an ideal setting for strolling, taking in the scenery, and enjoying the peace and quiet.
The local festivals and neighborhood gatherings, held mainly in late summer, reinforce the close-knit character of the municipality and that sense of community so typical of small towns.
